Household Hazardous Waste - Past, Present and Future

Improper disposal of many household products in drains, sewers, backyards or landfill sites, is not only hazardous to public health but also contaminates our water supply and other natural resources.

Averages show that, in the last ten years, less than 10% of all householders participated in HHW programs offered in their communities. Yet the number of hazardous products, available to purchase, continues to grow. Many communities are now implementing HHW programs with frequent, regularly scheduled collection dates and satellite locations, in an attempt to make the programs more convenient and accessible for their residents.

At Hotz Environmental Services, all of our innovative initiatives (such as our International Paint Recycling program) are directed toward designing programs which are streamlined and cost effective for our clients to operate. Reduced operations costs are our contribution to the future sustainability of these valuable HHW programs. These efforts together with the implementation of product stewardship concepts are sure to ensure the existence of HHW programs in the future.
